The Tennessee TCAP assessments (state standardized tests) will be administered in CMCSS beginning April 17, 2023.

• Students in grades 3-5 will be completing the paper-pencil version of TCAP Achievement for English Language Arts, Math, and Science.
• Students in grades 6-8 will be completing the computer-based version of the TCAP Achievement for English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
• Students in high school who are currently enrolled in Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, English I, English II, US History, and/or Biology will be completing the computer-based version of the TCAP EOC.

State law (T.C.A. § 49-1-617) establishes that the state assessments shall comprise a percentage, between 15% and 25%, of a student’s final grade for the spring semester. In CMCSS (policy INS-A023), it is 15%. Students absent on the day of testing receive a zero, following the attendance policy for excused and unexcused absences. Makeup opportunities are provided within the testing window.

NEW this year: Tennessee state law provides all students the opportunity to request additional time for completing TCAP assessments if needed. Teachers will provide students a reminder during each subtest of the TCAP to simply raise their hand if they feel they need a few extra moments to finish. The additional time available is equal to 20% of the time allotted for the test section being completed, which is approximately 5 to 17 minutes depending on the content area and subtest. Parents may also make the request for the additional time for their student by submitting a letter of request to the principal at their child’s school by Thursday, April 6. Students who are finished with the assessment or have submitted the computer-based assessment have acknowledged they do not need the additional time.

All students have the right to meaningful access and opportunities for participation in instruction. The strategies, accessibility, and accommodations used during instruction need to also be available to the greatest extent possible for assessments. Federal and state law require all public-school students in Tennessee, regardless of background, to be included in annual summative assessments. There are no opt-out options provided for state assessments in Tennessee. Students absent on the day of testing receive a zero, following the attendance policy for excused and unexcused absences. Makeup opportunities are provided within the testing window.

Congratulations to the RHS Boys and Girls Track Teams who took first place at the Creek Wood Invitational Track Meet.   Here are some noteworthy individual performances by:

• Casandra Rosencrants in the 400 meters
• Kaitlyn McCloud in the 200 meters
• Micah Parker & Xavier Estrada in the 400 meters. Xavier’s first race, placing 1st in his heat with a time of 58 seconds. Micah placed first with a time of 55 seconds!
• Maxwell Strains dominated in the 300 meter hurdles.
• The boys 4 X 800 took first place.
• Andrew Brackett, Chris Schroth, Josh Crock and Brennon Wells dominated the 1600 taking 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place.
• Andrew Brackett had a personal record in the mile with a time of 5 minutes and 19 seconds.
• Isaac Perkins took first place in the 800m race with a time of 2 minutes and 18 seconds. Teammates Aiden Snyder, Nick Westphal and Joseph Brunner were close behind.
• Hailey Rowland ran a sub 630 in the girls 1600m run!
• Cheyenne Sims won first place in her heat on
  Thursday in the 800m, she placed 3rd overall!

The Rossview Playhouse presents the play “1986” by Don Zolidis on March 16-18 at 7:00 p.m. in the Theatre.  All are welcome and tickets can be purchased for $5 at Gofan.co

Lieutenant Salazar, a representative from the local Air Force Firefighters, shared resources with Mr. Slaughter’s Fire Management Classes on Thursday March 2.  Lieutenant Salazar shared her perspective on the firefighting jobs along with other jobs such as flying drones.  Lieutenant Salazar flies drones all over the world.  Airman LeFlore is in security and wants to go into CIA/FBI one day.  It was a great day for the students to hear their stories.

Congratulations to the RHS Rifle Marksmanship Team who finished 2nd in the First Year Shooter Competition at Northwest High School this past week.  The team captain is Olivia Miller.  The team consisted of Rowan Minton, Braylen Schmidt, Ella Turner and Freya Eason Bassett.

Congratulations to the RHS JLAB Team who finished 1st in the District during the National JLAB Qualifier this past week.  The team captain is Kamiliya Aumiller.  The team will find out on March 1st if they have earned a berth at the National JLAB Competition in Washington D.C. this coming Summer.

The Rossview Girls wrestling team won its 6th consecutive Individual Region 4 Championship, with 11 girls placing top 4 of their weight class and qualifying for the TSSAA State Tournament this Thursday-Saturday.

• Individual regional medalist are as follows:
• Region Champions: Mariana Bowen, Irelynn Laurin, and Katelyn McMillan
• Region Runners-Up: Ava Teasley, Evelin Ochoa, Analise Jetter, and Alyssa Adamo
• Region 3rd place: Adelynn Bess, Anna Jenks, and Stitch Nikolao
• Region 4th place: Zahara Williams

The Rossview Boys placed 3rd in the Section 3 Individual Tournament, with 7 boys placing top 4 and qualifying for the TSSAA Individual State tournament this Thursday-Saturday.
