CMCSS School Board Presents Point of Pride Awards During February Meeting

The following students, faculty, and staff received Point of Pride awards from the CMCSS School Board during the formal board meeting on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

Carson Carroll

Carson Caroll is a Rossview High School junior who made a perfect score on the ACT exam. The perfect composite score is 36. This score is an average of the four section scores for English, Math, Reading, and Science. Getting a perfect score on the ACT is very rare. Out of the nearly 1.5 million students who took the ACT across America in 2025, only around 2,900 test takers, or 0.2% of students, earned a perfect ACT score.

Cathy Kolb

Cathy Kolb is the first CMCSS teacher to ever be appointed to the Tennessee State Board of Education. Mrs. Kolb a veteran educator with more than four decades of experience in public education, dedicated to supporting students with diverse learning needs and strengthening instructional practice. She has spent the majority of her career as a special education teacher in CMCSS. Her work has focused on advocating for students with special needs, fostering inclusive classroom environments, and mentoring new teachers. She has also served as a special education department chairperson and has trained fellow educators on IEP development, compliance, and best practices. In recognition of her dedication and impact, Kolb has been named a building-level Teacher of the Year on three occasions.

Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Kolb has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to professional service and volunteer leadership in education. She most recently served as president of Professional Educators of Tennessee, where she supported educators statewide through leadership development, professional collaboration, and engagement on issues impacting public education. Her involvement with education-focused organizations has included mentoring educators, contributing to statewide initiatives, and supporting efforts to strengthen teaching and learning across Tennessee. Congratulations, Mrs. Kolb, and thank you for everything you have done and will continue to do to inspire and lead all of us to make decisions in the best interest of all children.

Jean Luna-Vedder

Dr. Luna Vedder is the first CMCSS Director of Schools to be selected for the prestigious School Superintendents Association, National Superintendent Certification Program. The program comprises a small cohort of superintendents across America as they navigate the essential work of preparing students to graduate as both good students and good citizens, ready to succeed in whatever path they choose. Today’s superintendents face historically complex challenges that require building trust with families, supporting educators, and strengthening community partnerships — all while keeping the focus on what matters most: our children. Dr. Luna-Vedder embodies servant-leadership, and we are so proud of her for graduating from this program and continuing to push herself and those around her to be better every day so that CMCSS can be the best school system for our students, families, and community.
