National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI)

About NSTI:

When: Weekdays from July 7th through August 1st.
Where: Middle Tennessee State University
Lodging and meals: Provided as part of the program

The objective of NSTI is to provide high school students with an awareness of transportation careers, enhance STEM skills, and encourage students to consider a transportation-related major. The program is administered by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) and funded by the Federal Highway Administration at no cost to participants.

NSTI Program Curriculum:

The MTSU program will be hosted on the MTSU campus with faculty and MTSU students-led activities involving autonomous vehicles, drones, application of computer vision in transportation, traffic network simulation, and more. Participants will learn about transportation-related career opportunities from invited talks given by transportation professionals and field trips to nearby transportation agencies and museums.

Application Package Requirements:

  1. Online application form
  2. A copy of your official transcript
  3. One letter of recommendation from a school counselor
  4. One letter of recommendation from a STEM (computer science, mathematics, pre-engineering, or science) teacher
  5. One-page typed essay describing the student’s interest in STEM and, more specifically, in engineering and transportation.

Tennova Healthcare – Clarksville seeks VolunTeens for Summer

Tennova Healthcare – Clarksville is seeking Youth Volunteers, known as VolunTeens, for the summer 2025 program. Young people between the ages of 14 and 18 and currently in high school may apply. A minimum of 20 applicants will be accepted for one of our one-week sessions, on June 2-6 or July 14-18. Teens must participate in all 5 days of the program, with students attending 8AM- 4PM each day.

We will also be accepting applications for an exclusive summer long

(June & July) session for Juniors and Seniors. Applicants must be able to commit to 40 scheduled volunteer hours over the summer.

Teens must complete and return the electronic application packet by April 21. Incomplete applications will be removed from consideration. Those selected will be notified via email and must attend a mandatory orientation as noted in their acceptance email. Teens will be expected to follow all safety protocols implemented by Tennova Healthcare – Clarksville.

The Summit STEM Fellowship

The Summit STEM Fellowship is a virtual summer program taught by Harvard, Stanford, and MIT graduates. Through the program, students explore different opportunities and diverse career pathways in STEM. The fellowship is a flexible 10-15 hour weekly commitment, and students may participate alongside other summer commitments.
